Dear Marge,

At the end of a game, just as a Penalty Corner was getting ready to be pushed out my colleague blew for time.

At this point the team taking the corner stood back and started trying to get their colleagues attention to join them on the circle and to change their plan for the corner. In view of the time this was taking I decided the team were time wasting and blew time.

Fortunately the score was such that this decision was not contentious. Was it the right decision or should we allow teams as much time as they want once time has been blown?

Yours Befuddled

Dear Befuddled,

Short answer – it was not the right decision!

Once time has been blown, in this case by your colleague then players cannot time-waste, as there is no time to waste! They are able to call up their colleagues and to change their tactics in such circumstances.

The only instance where I could see that giving the team unlimited time would be a problem, is if you are holding up another game because you are late finishing but then only deliver a verbal “hurry it up ladies please”!
